7th Annual Helen Back Golf Classic, May 18

It's that time of year again.  The seventh Annual Helen Back Golf Classic is in full swing!  It is scheduled for May 18, 2012, at the Shalimar Pointe Golf and Country Club.  The fun will begin with 11 am registrations and a 12:30 shotgun start.  This is not your average, run-of-the-mill charity golf tournament.  It's an event that encompasses more than just regular golf skills.  This tournament will challenge you in more ways than one.  We will be having the Famous Helen Back Club Toss hole to vent your frustrations, the "Cialis" hole for those who have trouble performing, the old-fashioned pass, punt, and kick hole to showcase your athletic ability, and let's not forget the $10,000 hole-in-one prize!  These are only a few of the many exciting activities that will be offered throughout this action-packed day.  The basic team entry package to register a four-person team is $400.  The Deluxe Team entry package is $500, which includes registration and a tee box sign.

Chris Sehman, the owner of Helen Back Cafe and the Emerald Coast Foundation's president, has assisted in raising over $1 million in donations from years past.  We appreciate the many sponsors and businesses who donated their time and money to last year's charitable event.  All the proceeds from the Helen Back Golf Classic will be donated to the Emerald Coast Foundation, a non-profit organization supporting youth-oriented groups along the Emerald Coast.  Funds raised are dispersed annually to such organizations as the Boys and Girls Club, the YMCA, Children in Crisis, Horizons, and many more.

Your 2012 sponsorship consideration is most appreciated.  Please join us in making a difference for our local community and the children we so greatly cherish.  If you have any questions, please contact Tiffany by phone at 850-244-1379 or by email at tiffany(at)helenbackcafe.com

Film Screening of "Granito: How to Nail a Dictator"

June 16, 2012

The City of Fort Walton Beach Heritage Park and Cultural Center is
presenting a new PBS POV film "Granito: How to Nail a Dictator," a documentary
film by Pamela Yates, Paco de Onís and Peter Kinoy. This event is being
held on Saturday, June 16th at 6:00 pm inside the Indian Temple Mound
Museum Lazarus Education Center. It is free and open to the public. This
event is in collaboration with the award winning documentary series POV
(www.pbs.org.pov).

Film Synopsis: In a stunning milestone for justice in Central America, a
Guatemalan court recently charged former dictator Efraín Rios Montt with
genocide for his brutal war against the country’s Mayan people in the
1980s — and Pamela Yates’ 1983 documentary, When the Mountains Tremble,
provided key evidence for bringing the indictment. Granito: How to Nail a
Dictator tells the extraordinary story of how a film, aiding a new
generation of human rights activists, became a granito — a tiny grain of
sand — that helped tip the scales of justice. An Official Selection of
the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. A co-production of ITVS with funding
provided by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. A co-presentation with
Latino Public Broadcasting. Broadcast Date: June 28th, 2012.
