The Uptown Shopping District Committee of the Greater Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce will hold an “All Around Uptown” Treasure Hunt in association with the Billy Bowlegs Pirate Festival. The contest will begin on Friday, May 27 and end on Thursday, June 2 – a total of seven days, with seven different clues. There will be a children’s division and an adult division.
Two Billy Bowlegs Medallions (one for adults, one for children) will be hidden on publicly accessible land in the Uptown Shopping District (see map on individual entry form or “Hunter Board”). (Coins will be hidden “in plain sight,” not buried. Please do not dig anywhere!) Maps and “Hunter Boards” (with contest rules) will be available from the lobby of the Greater Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce (34 Miracle Strip Parkway, SE, FWB), starting on May 23. Entrants in the children’s division must be 16 years of age or younger.
A new clue will be available each day at each of four featured businesses of the day. Two businesses will have the children’s clue, and two businesses will have the adult clue. The names and locations of the featured businesses will be disclosed daily on the website of the Greater Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/fwbchamber), and in the Northwest Florida Daily News. Treasure hunters must visit each of the 24 featured businesses over the course of seven days to pick up a puzzle piece to be attached to the “Hunter Board.”
There will be a prize in each division. The adult winner will receive a prize basket full of gift certificates, and items from the participating merchants (worth at least $1,250). The children’s division winner will receive a new bike and other valuable merchandise (a total of at least $900). The winners will be presented with their prizes on Friday, June 3rd at the First Friday Coffee of the Greater Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce.
The winning treasure hunters (one in each division) must present a full “Hunter Board” with ALL PUZZLE PIECES from all of the 24 respective Uptown District businesses AS WELL AS the appropriate Billy Bowlegs Medallion. Non-compliance may result in disqualification.
