The Florida Department of Health in Okaloosa County will be hosting a Lunch and Learn about Healthy Okaloosa Worksites on Monday, June 11 at 11:30 located at the FWB Chamber. Healthy Okaloosa is a local initiative that uses the 5210 messages to reinforce the importance of healthy eating and active living.
-Eat five or more fruits and vegetables every day.
-Encourage and support breastfeeding.
-Limit recreational screen time to two hours or less each day.
-Be physically active at least one hour every day.
-Cut back on sugar-sweetened beverages.
-Eliminate the use of and exposure to tobacco and nicotine products and promote a tobacco free environment.
The Healthy Okaloosa initiative offers FREE programs for worksites. Here are a few of the amazing things our partners have accomplished:
-Synovus Bank implemented a policy supporting healthy foods and beverages during the workday
-Gulf Power formed a Wellness Committee to guide and improve employee health
-The City of Fort Walton Beach developed a breastfeeding policy supporting breastfeeding mothers by allowing time to express milk during the work day. They also hosted a Biggest Loser competition among staff.
