2013 Day for Kids

Location: Fort Walton Beach Landing

We’re all busy, especially this time of year. As many parents struggle with their careers, face budgetary crises, and even care for their own aging parents – they run short on time and lose touch with their kids. This despite all the e- and i- gadgets that are supposed to keep us connected.
That’s one reason the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Emerald Coast is joining more than 1,500 Clubs across the country in celebrating Boys & Girls Clubs Day for Kids on Saturday, September 28. It’s a time for us all – parents, grandparents, mentors and other caregivers – to take time and reconnect with the kids in our lives.
All across the country, Boys & Girls Club members and their parents, joined by other community leaders, will gather for a full day of activities, ranging from carnivals and festivals to concerts and walks. Here in Northwest Florida, we’ll be celebrating with many fun activities in the areas of Academics, Good Character & Citizenship, Healthy Lifestyles including scavenger hunts, mask making, math/science spelling bee, hula hoop, jump rope, fitness challenges for children and adults, kickball, puppet show, relay race and more.
Why is a celebration like Day for Kids so important? It’s simple. Kids need the adults in their lives to be present and engaged. As they grow up, they need our help to discover their talents, form healthy habits and resist negative peer pressure. By spending meaningful time with them, we help young people develop a positive self-image, a sense of belonging and purpose. And by dedicating a whole day to celebrating America’s youth, we let them know just how important they are.
Please join us as we celebrate our kids.
