Name: Late Registration for Lifelong Learning Classes at the Center for Lifelong Learning
    Date: January 13, 2015
    Time: 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM CST
    Event Description:

The Center for Lifelong Learning, Inc. (known as CLL), will offer more than 70 courses this winter to adults of all ages. CLL is a Lifelong Learning Institute affiliated with Road Scholars (formerly called Elderhostel) and has been offering classes in Okaloosa County for more than twenty years.

Because all instructors, aides and committee members volunteer their services without pay, CLL is able to offer a modest registration fee. The registration fee is only $50, which allows students to take as many as four different courses during the eight week term. There are no tests, no credits, and no pressure, just the enjoyment of learning and meeting others of similar interests.

New classes this term will include: Weaving (a shawl) on a Triangle Loom, Caregiving, The Mideast: the Arab Spring to the Rise of Isis, Greek Mythology, Conflict Resolution, the Limits of Laws (that apply to immigration and Congress), Writers Circle, and Security Issues in the 21th Century. Others focus on: technology training from computers to I-pads, art instruction (with pen & ink, acrylics, watercolor, wax, or personal choice); crafts (beading, weaving, knitting, crochet, making 3-D  boxes and cards), languages (Italian and Spanish), the literature of the Cornhuskers, history (from the Civil War to Asian conflicts to modern Russia and current events). Additional choices are the U.S. Constitution, the Death Penalty, Great Decisions in 2014 foreign policy, the Old West, and two different genealogy classes.

“Just for fun” are classes in learning to play the dulcimer, rhythm and blues, tap dancing, line dancing, Zumba Gold, skeet shooting, antiques and collectibles, astronomy, bird watching, cooking, photography, and bridge.

A number of classes deal with self-awareness (the Art of Discovering Me, Personality Preferences, Becoming More than You Are); wellness (yoga instruction, exercise for flexibility, staying healthy in 2015, health by choice, functional medicine, light energy therapy, memory and forgetting). CLL courses also include financial planning (investing, stocks and bonds, estate planning for Florida residents) and religion (the Bible as literature, Biblical archaeology, and comparative religions).

Late registration will be held the following week on January 12, 13, and 14 in the UWF Building 1 Lobby from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. After January 14, late registration will continue in person in the CLL office in room 460 (UWF Building 4 upstairs) from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.

Classes will begin the week of January 19.  Most classes meet at the local UWF campus in Fort Walton Beach. Other classes meet at various sites in the area. As a service to the community, CLL invites interesting people to speak on timely topics or entertain during the lunch hour each Friday in the UWF auditorium in Building 8. These Special Events are open to the public at no charge. See the catalog for the schedule of Special Events.
