My Wishes Workshop

Throughout our lives, we plan for many things. We plan our grocery lists, write down appointments and make plans for large purchases. Some of us never think about the end of our life, much less have a plan or conversation about it. However, making decisions ahead of time and putting them in writing can bring peace of mind to us and our loved ones. Having a plan in place avoids the often difficult situation in which a person becomes ill and loved ones are left to guess what that person’s true wishes may be. National Healthcare Decisions Day (NHDD) is observed April 16, 2014 and is an initiative to provide clear, concise, and consistent information on healthcare decision-making to both the public, as well as healthcare providers and facilities at no cost. In conjunction with the national effort, Covenant Hospice will be offering hands-on advance care planning workshop on Wednesday, April 16 at 1:30 p.m. at The Meridian at Westwood in Fort Walton Beach (1001 Mar Walt Drive); A brief overview of advance care planning will be given, followed by a question and answer session. Resources will be made available to attendees so that they can begin documenting a personal plan to reference with their loved ones. Professionals from a variety of backgrounds including attorneys, financial planners, healthcare professionals and representatives from area agencies will be available to provide assistance and field-specific information.
