National Dump the Pump Day

Aren’t you curious? What would the roads look like if a majority of citizens rode the bus for a day?   National Dump the Pump Day is June 19 and everyone rides FREE on Okaloosa County Transit (OCT). This promotional event includes all WAVE routes in Crestview, Fort Walton Beach, Destin and also includes route 14, the WAVE Express.  Businesses who encourage employees to ride are eligible to win the OCT Dump the Pump Commuter Challenge, just email Bob_Berkstresser@OCT.org.

This effort is sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), to highlight the benefits of public transportation:

• Public transportation is a $57 billion industry that employs 400,000 people.
• Two car households save more than $10,000 each year by getting rid of one car.
• Every $1 invested in public transportation generates about $4 in economic returns
• Proven record of reducing traffic congestion, shorter commutes and less need for road expansion.
