Name: The Indian Temple Mound presents ''Eglin in the Movies''
    Date: February 27, 2015
    Time: 6:00 PM - 6:00 PM CST
    Event Description:

On Friday, February 27th, 2015 at 6:00 p.m., Dr. Robert Kane will share the story of Eglin Air Force Bases’ cinematic history. Known worldwide as the military centerpiece of Northwest Florida, Eglin Air Force Base has been the center for testing the latest aircraft and weapons and served as a home for Air Force and Army special operations. But interestingly, Eglin has also been a movie star since the 1940s. Films as diverse as 1949’s Twelve O'Clock High and 1964’s Dr. Strangelove were filmed in part at Eglin. Additionally, many movies have featured units and personnel from Eglin.

During his 27 years in the Air Force, Dr. Kane held a variety of information management, personnel management, and education positions.  After retiring from the Air Force as a lieutenant colonel, Dr. Kane taught public school in Montgomery, Alabama before becoming the staff historian at the Air Armament Center, Eglin Air Force Base and then the Air Force Historical Research Center, Maxwell Air Force Base. Dr. Kane has been the Air University Director of History, Maxwell Air Force Base since December 2010. Heritage Park & Cultural Center is located at 139 Miracle Strip Parkway SE.

This free presentation is open to the public and will be offered at the Indian Temple Mound Museum.  For more information, please contact Museum Programming Coordinator Michael Weech at 833-9595 or mweech@fwb.org.
