Heritage Park is hosting a speaker series on World War I this fall. The Keep the Home Fires Burning series will run through December and feature WWI topics from air power to archeology.
In the October presentation, The Lafayette Escadrille,
Dr. Robert Kane will present the story of the American
pilots who flew for the French air corps during
World War I. These American pilots flew for the French against the Germans before the United States entered the conflict on the side of Britain and France.
During his 27 years in the Air Force, Dr. Kane held a
variety of information management, personnel
management, and education positions. After retiring from the Air Force as a lieutenant colonel, Dr Kane taught public school in Montgomery, Alabama before becoming the staff historian at the Air Armament Center, Eglin Air Force Base and then the Air Force Historical Research Center, Maxwell Air Force Base. Dr Kane has been the Air University Director of History, Maxwell Air Force Base since
December 2010.
