Name: Then and Now - ''DeFuniak Springs: A Pictorial History, 1885-1915''Date: August 23, 2013Time: 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM CDTEvent Description:Diane Merkel will present a visual tour of the Historic District of DeFuniak Springs in Walton County.
Merkel is a graduate of Miami University (Ohio) and has always loved American history. Prior to moving to Florida, she was active with the Fairfax (Virginia) Genealogy Society and worked on the committee that opened the Fairfax Museum and Visitors Center. Since relocating to the Florida Panhandle, she has served on the boards of two museums and was a founding member of the Panhandle Historical Preservation Alliance (PHPA).
She is currently the president of the Walton County Heritage Association. Merkel is the author of Images of America: DeFuniak Springs and numerous articles and booklets. She is currently working on Images of America: Coastal Walton County, which will be published in the spring of 2014.
