The City of Fort Walton Beach Heritage Park and Cultural Center will host a free public lecture series in honor of the Camp Walton Schoolhouse's 100th Birthday starting in September 2012. This series will feature key people, organizations, places, and events from the time period the schoolhouse was a working school: 1912-1936. The series is slated to run from September 2012 through August 2013 with lectures scheduled each month.
Our seventh speaker in this series is Dean Debolt on March 15th, 2013 at 6:00pm. Mr Debolt will give a talk titled History of the Florida Chautauqua. The Florida Chautauqua is a non-profit educational organization focused on producing a yearly assembly with content that is cross-cultural, ethnically diverse, and historically significant. Dean DeBolt is University Librarian for Special Collections at the University of West Florida in Pensacola, Florida where he has been on the faculty since 1981. He has lectured widely on the American Chautauqua Movement and the history of the Florida Chautauqua including presentations at the New York Chautauqua and the Monteagle Sunday School Assembly. He is a frequent speaker on topics of West Florida history and genealogical research.
Lectures are free and open to the public, and seats are on a first come, first serve basis. Doors will open 20 minutes prior to lecture start time. For further information, please contact the museum at 833-9595 or hpcc@fwb.org.
