Shelter Operations and Cat Care Lead

Full-time — 40 hours per week (8 hours per day, 5 days per week)
Position Summary
The Shelter Operations and Cat Care Lead is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, and well-organized shelter environment while supporting daily operations and animal well-being. This role ensures that established protocols are followed consistently, that cats are monitored daily for health concerns, and that volunteers are properly trained in cleaning procedures. Daily cleaning and sanitation of all cat and public areas is the highest priority of this position.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Daily Cleaning & Sanitation (Primary Responsibility)
? Follow all established shelter cleaning and sanitation protocols to ensure cat areas, public spaces, and work areas are clean, sanitary, and safe at all times
? Maintain an ongoing laundry process throughout each shift, including washing, drying, folding, and restocking bedding, towels, and other washable items
Shelter Organization & Supplies
? Restock and organize shelter supply shelves on an ongoing basis
? Maintain and update a running list of supplies that need to be ordered and communicate needs to the Shelter Manager
Cat Health Monitoring
? Perform daily “eyes-on” checks of every cat in the shelter
? Observe and note any signs of illness, injury, stress, or behavioral concerns ?Promptly report any concerns to the Shelter Manager in accordance with protocol
Volunteer Training & Support
? Train volunteers on shelter cleaning and sanitation protocols
? Ensure volunteers understand expectations and proper procedures while working in the shelter
Facility Monitoring
? Observe and report any building maintenance issues, safety concerns, repairs needed, or other non-routine issues to the Shelter Manager
Reporting Relationship
Reports directly to the Shelter Manager.
Work Environment
This position involves regular physical activity, including standing, bending, lifting, cleaning, and working directly in cat housing areas. Comfort working around cats, cleaning chemicals, and shelter noise is required.
Minimum Qualifications:
? Must be comfortable with cats and kittens.
? Two years experience in animal shelter or veterinary office.
? Clean driving record and a valid driver’s license.
? Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
? Ability to work with minimal supervision.
? Ability to work with culturally diverse groups.
? Ability to work cooperatively and respectfully with team members, volunteers, board members, and the community.
? Ability to bend, lift up to 20 pounds, and climb stairs.
? Not afraid to get dirty.
